Ashita Gona

Senior Associate of Carbon Free Buildings, RMI

Ashita Gona is an associate on RMI’s Carbon-Free Buildings team, where she works with stakeholders in the Mid-Atlantic to transition the region’s buildings away from fossil fuels. Ashita brings a strong communications background to her work, having previously worked at Climate Nexus promoting building electrification in the news media. She has also worked as an environmental journalism fellow, as an intern at the White House Council on Environmental Quality, and as a freelance writer. Ashita holds a B.A. in Media and Journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a M.S. in Energy Policy and Climate from Johns Hopkins University. She lives in Laurel, MD with her husband and her cat.

Policy and Program Director for Clean Buildings, Northeast States for Coordinated Air Use Management (NESCAUM)

Emily leads NESCAUM’s Building Electrification Initiative, providing states with technical and policy support to accelerate the transition to zero-emission buildings. Emily previously worked at VEIC for 15 years, where she designed and advised on building decarbonization and energy efficiency programs in multiple states and helped launch the TECH Clean California initiative to advance statewide adoption of clean space and water heating. Emily also serves on the Building Performance Association Board of Directors and Executive Committee and on her town’s energy committee in East Montpelier, Vermont.
